KARLIS SILINS
Solo exhibition. Paintings.

17.08.2004. - 04.09.2004.

Painter KĀRLIS SILIŅŠ’ solo exhibition was on view at the RIGA GALLERY from 17 August to 4 September 2004.

The show demonstrated both earlier and new works created for this event. Kārlis Siliņš’ scope of interest includes abstracted still lives and figural compositions as well as stylised landscapes, particularly remarkable in his latest works. They feature laconic composition created by areas of colour. The artist uses most varied sizes of canvases but square seems to be the most favoured, used in this exhibition as well.

Kārlis Siliņš was born in 1958. In 1977 he graduated from Janis Rozentāls Riga Secondary Art School, in 1984 – from the Painting Department of the Latvian Academy of Art. Siliņš participates in exhibitions since 1981 and has organised 6 solo shows, including that in Paris gallery “Carre d’Or”. He is active to participate in significant local and international exhibitions in Latvia and abroad; the most significant being “Paintures Lettones du XXeme sciecle” in Paris, Bordeaux, Strasbourg in 1993, series of exhibitions “Drunken Ship” at the State Museum of Art Exhibition Hall “Arsenāls” (1995) and Exhibition Hall “Latvija” (1997).

Siliņš’ works are found in collections of the State Museum of Art and Artists’ Union of Latvia and in private collections in Latvia, USA, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Turkey, Russia, France and Australia.
