From October 20th Riga Gallery represent Leonards Laganovskis retrospective selection in exhibition END OF THE MOVIE dedicated to the Latvian conceptualism meter Laganovskis 1980-90s action. In this period active and unsparing critic of the absurd Soviet system - L. Laganovskis the social discontent expressed by studying Communist Party propaganda, language and aesthetics.

With 40 works from this period made in different techniques (objects, photography, works on paper, silk screen, paintings) artist give us convincing analysis of the political system by using traditional system’s visual symbols – text   image. Author diligently documents and reduces the Soviet system’s dishes, drinks, party watchwords and even wallpaper patterns and colors in impressive images (from series „The wall”) and local nomenclature parties chiefs conformity to parameters of the era’s golden section „hammer and sickle” in this way creating atmosphere and characters like in novels by George Orwell.

Leonards Laganovskis is one of the few Latvian artists who worked in Western Berlin in second half of 80’s where he collaboration with the prestigious German culture, art institutions and galleries.

Leonards Laganovskis is first and most consequent artist who use text   image in Latvian art works. Artist’s interest about social and political process remained in later years and created important “brand-mania” series.

He brightly demonstrates his consumed and unique artistic style in important foreign and Latvian exhibitions. Leonards Laganovskis is participant of legendary exhibitions „Riga - Lettische avant-garde”, „Nature. Environment. Man”, „Lecterns” etc. Artist was Berlin Culture Senate, The Banff Center for the Arts, Künstlerhaus Bethanien Grant and stipendiary.

At year 2010 on Art Museum Arsenals (Riga / Latvia) was demonstrated important and expand Leonards Laganovskis solo exhibition „NORMAL”.

Leonards Laganovskis (b. 1955) has finished Art Academy of Latvia, Department of Stage Design.
He works in different fields of art which are drawing, painting, photography, objects ect.
